A new way of working, and building a luxury brand.
It’s no secret that during my 20+ years in the copywriting and journalism industry, I’ve been guilty of burning the candle at both ends. I’ve built my business from the ground up, pulled my fair share of all-nighters, and taken on gruelling client projects with super tight deadlines. It’s been a wild ride, but I don’t regret a second of it. What those past years have given me is an amazing portfolio of regular clients and a passion to be the best in my industry. But now it’s time to shake things up and change how I plan to move forward.
This industry isn’t the same as it was when I first started out. It’s cut-throat and can be toxic if you don’t develop a thick skin pretty quickly. Writers and journalists are almost always trolled, personally harassed through our social media channels (I’ve learned not to read the comments section and implement the block and delete method pretty quickly!), and subjected to abuse off the back of articles we write. So it’s more important than ever to become confident in who you are and the value of what you bring to the table. For the past 6 months, I’ve been evaluating everything about how I work, the hours I want to give to my business, and the clients I want to work with.

Having designed and developed new luxury branding (I have a whole blog post planned about that, so stay tuned!) and setting work hours that feel kinder to my body and mind, I’m more excited than I’ve ever been about my brand and my vision for my work going forward. I want to write about topics that I’m passionate about and work with businesses that I can truly champion. Let’s just say that I’m in my Kim Cattrall era, as her famous quote lives rent-free in my mind and I reference it often. Speaking to The Guardian, she said:

Kim Cattrall
“I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself.”
I feel this. I feel it to my very core. Maybe being in my 40s has something to do with it, or perhaps we all just come to this realisation eventually. Saying no to situations because they’re not going to bring me joy and choosing clients that align with my passion and values are now higher than ever on my list of priorities.
I’m still going to be working my magic on your projects, I’m keeping plenty of my regular, long-standing clients and I’ll probably still be pulling an occasional all-nighter (maybe making it to midnight might be more accurate) but I’ll now have more time to offer personalised services that allow me to be truly hands on when it comes to you and your project.
I’ll be more active on my socials in the coming months as I start to implement these changes, and I hope you’ll follow along and be part of the journey! I’ll be sure to share more information on how to work with me and how I can add value to your brand in content, both here on the blog and across my social media. So, let’s do this!
